The sweetest, most complex reserve lot from Kaukiswa and a stunning example of the taste of coffees from the Machakos region in Kenya. This coffee exhibits that special something magical that brings it all together into a spell binding experience. Perfectly balanced, massively complex yet delicately nuanced. This coffee has it all.

Boasting both the Fair Trade and Starbucks C.A.F.E Certifications our single origin coffee is produced in Machakos County located in Kenya's Eastern Highlands, about 100 km from Nyeri County. The sustainably-conscious Kaukiswa society has about 1,500 members and produces about 700,000 kilos of red ripe cherries annually. The coffee is grown on about 350 hectares of small fragmented plots that lie between the Kanzalu hills and the Ol Donyo Sabuk mountain.

The society encourages its members to grow avocado and banana trees to shade the coffee trees from the blazing sun and conserve soil moisture. Consequently, these food crops also serve to supplement farmer incomes. The weather in Machokos is perfect for bee keeping and Kaukiswa members have beehives strategically located in their farms from which they harvest organic honey for sell.

With growing demand for specialty coffee, the Machakos county installed a dry mill in 2013 to improve coffee quality and at the same time lower member transportation costs. For years, Machakos farmers transported their parchment coffee to millers in Kiambu and Nairobi counties.
